WinX Free DVD to AVI Ripper is an application with a pretty suggestive title - it enables you to convert DVDs to videos with the AVI format. The tool can be easily used by individuals of any experience level.
The interface of the program is plain and simple to navigate through. You can import a DVD into the list by using the treeview, since the "drag and drop" method is not supported (and neither is batch processing).
In the queue you can check out the title, subtitle, duration and output name of the DVD. So, all you have to do is specify the output destination, in order to proceed with the encoding job.
Furthermore, you can change audio and video settings when ti comes to the quality, format, sample frequency rate, frame rate, channel mode, volume, resolution and others.
Additionally, you can select the audio language and subtitle track, preview clips in a small, built-in media player and take snapshots, cut videos by marking the start and end time, and others.
During the conversion job, you can check out a progress bar, the current title, destination name, start and stop time, current time and frame, duration and frames per second, as well as enable WinX Free DVD to AVI Ripper to automatically turn off the computer or to open the destination directory after encoding.
The DVD encoding tool requires a low-to-moderate amount of system resources, has a good response time, quickly finishes a task and manages to keep a very good image and sound quality. We haven't come across any issues during our tests. Putting aside the fact that you cannot select individual DVD chapters for processing or look into a help file, we strongly recommend WinX Free DVD to AVI Ripper to all users.
