Burning CDs and DVDs is no longer an issue since there are so many powerful software solutions on the market, but new tools keep coming, promising to offer several extra goodies.
Burn4Free is one of these tools, being able to create data and audio CDs and DVDs, but at the same time, it can also handle ISO images, just like many other disc burners on the market.
The first thing that made us raise an eyebrow was the installer. You have to choose one of the two available modes, quick or custom, and since most of the users would be tempted to choose the first one, we must warn you that it's better to go for the second option.
Choosing Quick will also set Burn4Free DB as the default search and homepage on your computer, and picking Custom Mode is the only way to skip this step.
Secondly, we didn't like the interface, not only because it's not well organized, but also because it comes with links and advertisements to some other software solutions.
On the other hand, Burn4Free supports drag and drop, so you just have to drag the files you wish to burn in the main window and you are ready to go.
Plus, it has what it's being called a “Fly Window”, which is more like a floating icon that lets you add files to your burning project on the go.
There are some preferences as well, but once again, options at that not at organized, so you may have to spend some time in this side of the application as well.
All in all, it's always nice to see newcomers, but Burn4Free doesn't stand a chance with this kind of user approach. There are so many things to be improved that it's better to skip this one.
