As its name implies, USB Guardian is a simple, yet handy tool designed to protect your system from virus and worm infections transmitted via USB memory sticks, such as Conficker and similar malicious code.
The application runs silently in the system tray and monitors the connected USB drives in order to detect potentially dangerous files on removable storage devices. When such a threat is identified, the first thing that USB Guardian does is automatically disable the autorun feature (in this case, you can optionally set the application to keep the CDROM autorun active).
A list of all the suspicious files is displayed in its main window, enabling you to view the autorun related items and remove them from the storage device. Designed with ease of use in mind, the main interface is simple and intuitive, only comprising a few buttons for accessing the configuration section, refreshing the drive content and unlocking the suspicious files.
When trying to access an infected file, an error message occurs, notifying you that the file is blocked. Thus, the access to the suspicious files is restricted, but you can still use the drive normally, without worrying that your system might be damaged in any way. However, advanced users can unlock the quarantined files with a button's push, which makes USB Guardian a flexible and reliable tool.
The application can be set to run at system startup and open the USB disk folder with a user-defined time delay.
USB Guardian can be used together with a permanent security solution in order to bring an extra security layer to your system. It is a must-have tool for those who are frequently using USB memory sticks, allowing them to fully enjoy file sharing, without worrying about malware infections.
