This is the portable edition of SUMo - a small tool that automatically finds updates for software installed on your computer. You can use it to save precious time and keep your most commonly used apps up-to-date.
Since installation is not a prerequisite, you can extract the program files to any location on the hard drive and run the EXE file immediately.
Otherwise, you can store SUMo on a USB flash drive or other portable storage unit, so you can effortlessly run it on any computer with no prior installs.
More importantly, the Windows Registry section does not receive entry updates, and files do not remain on the hard drive after removing the app.
Upon deployment you can make the app automatically detect installed software, as well as check for the latest updates. The results list can be exported to a plain text document (TXT format) for thorough evaluation. Plus, you can reset the list of monitored applications.
With a clean interface and well-defined layout that doesn't include cluttered elements, SUMo shows the company, version and update status for each installed product. It is also possible to add a custom app to the list using the file browser.
If you select one or more items from the list, SUMo automatically brings up webpages from where you can download the latest updates. In other words, it does not automatize the download and install procedure.
Other features of the app let you create a software ignore and skipped list, update the server status, enable its automatic launch at system startup, minimize it to the system tray area, disable Regisry scanning, as well as edit proxy parameters, among others.
SUMo offers multilingual support, has a good response time and finishes a scan job rapidly, without causing any problems. Although it does not spare the user's time when it comes to downloading and installing software updates, SUMo definitely provides a straightforward method for dealing with such a time-consuming task.
