Make RSS feeds with the Sense To RSS tool without committing to a purpose made RSS Feed Editor application and without knowledge of both XML and HTML!

RSS feeds are derived from Sense document templates and are edited in plain text within Silva Elm's Sense Editor: the Sense To RSS tool is used to transform the completed Sense document XML to the RSS XML dialect.

Template documents comprise paragraphs, bullets and sections and are organised in a specific manner to allow this transformation: basic templates for RSS Versions 0.91 and 2.0 are provided with the Sense To RSS tool download.

Feed item descriptions are output within XML CDATA blocks with Sense document sections, paragraphs and bullets transformed directly to HTML along with any (thumbnail) image and webpage hyperlinks.

Additional feed items are easily created by replication of existing items within the Content Browser view of the Sense Editor with text editing carried out within the complementary Edit Workspace view.

Sense Feed Documents may be straightforwardly modified providing a level of future-proofing against RSS specification change and allows the basic supplied templates to be customised with the addition of new elements.

Sense To RSS is a simple to use tool designed with an intuitive user interface to create feeds from an initial selection of Sense document templates. The ready for Feed Validation output is displayed within an integral webbrowser view as either the raw XML or as a web page.

Each Sense document template is fully annotated with information indicating the required content of each RSS entry and a hyperlink is provided to the full RSS specification on the internet if further guidance is required. Application Notes are provided on the Silva Elm website to provide details of how document objects within item descriptions are tranformed to HTML with guidelines regarding feed customisation.
