Watching your preferred movies onto your home computer should be a pleasant, hassle-free activity and it usually is, unless some critical components, like video or audio codecs, are missing. Combined Community Codec Pack makes sure this pastime is as enjoyable as possible, by providing all the needed tools for a flawless playback.
The package includes the necessary filters that will enable you to view the vast majority of video formats. Among these codecs you will find some that may be quite familiar to you, like FFDShow, Haali Media Splitter or the MPEG-2 Decoder. Also, in case you needed one, a player is supplied, namely the Media Player Classic Home Cinema.
When running the setup, you'll be able to choose for the type of installation that suits you best. The three available options are: 'Full installation' (with all the bells and whistles), 'No Players', (the Media Player installation will be skipped) and 'Custom' (you can manually select the components that will be installed).
With the installation complete, you can view and configure in detail the Combined Community Codec Pack settings. The available customizations include FFDShow video and audio decoder options, enabling you to individually pick the formats that will be handled. You can also activate the tray icon for both FFDShow video and audio settings.
You can also configure the Haali Media Splitter feature and enable support for 6 formats, as well as its tray icon. The 'Settings' window provides you with a quick means of managing VSFilter's options, resetting all settings and re-registering the filters.
If you chose to install the player as well, you'll be able to manage file associations for several file formats. Thus, you could make AVI, MKV, MP4 and OGM files open with Media Player Classic Home Cinema or preserve the association currently active on your system.
With its decent set of components and effortless configuration, Combined Community Codec Pack is really useful and will definitely help anyone play almost all movie formats. However, you should keep in mind that it supports only the latest Windows versions, to be more precise from XP with Service Pack 3 up.

General changelog:
· FFDShow and its continuation, FFDShow-tryouts are now away, and instead we have pretty much everything except for Matroska splitting based on nevcairiel's LAV Filters.
· The old NSIS-based settings application is now also gone, and currently there is an Inno-based solution which bases on two separate settings applications; one handles user space, and the other handles system-wide settings (administrative rights needed). We would love to hear opinions and possible bug reports on it.
· WebM is now properly handled by LAV because Haali fails at it for whatever reason unless you use his renderer.
· LAV Video handles video decoding, and LAV Audio handles audio decoding. If you need hardware accelerated decoding, use LAV's. MPC-HC's "lite" version does not contain the internal DXVA ...
