Windows' Task Manager is undoubtedly one of the most useful tools in Microsoft's operating system, especially when it comes to troubleshooting unresponsive applications or closing stubborn processes. Nonetheless, there are times when it simply doesn't offer enough information or it cannot carry out a certain task.
For those moments, when you need a more powerful and savvy tool, Process Hacker can come to the rescue. Designed as an ultra enhanced version of Task Manager, this utility gives you full control over the processes that are running on a computer.
At a first look, the amount of information Process Hacker displays may be a bit overwhelming even for the average user. However, upon closer inspection you'll notice that everything is quite easy to understand.
Not only does it show details about every single process running on your machine, but Process Hacker can also draw graphs, find handles or DLLs, show GPU information, create new services, view disk and network usage and search online for even more information about a given item.
Process Hacker can display the whole process tree and allow you to terminate it with a single click, thus closing apps completely. It also features a neat function that enables you to suspend the activity of an item.
The System Information screen is one of the goodies that impressed us the most during our test as it provides a detailed report concerning the computer, including valuable data regarding physical memory, CPU usage, network traffic and many more.
Process Hacker is also able to show statistics for every single process, drawing graphs to help you track its performance and showing handles for expert users who wish to have full control over the processes running on their system.
The configuration panel allows you to set up many aspects of the application. It can be used to enable cycle-based CPU usage, include CPU usage of process children or simply make Process Hacker the default process manager on your system.
All things considered, it's safe to say that, up to this date, Process Hacker is one if not the most complete process management application you can get your hands on.
