Alligator Data Guard is a security application that enables you to encrypt files, folders and disks through various encryption methods, such as using a password or keyfile. It is quite easy to work with.
The interface is plain and simple. You can get started by specifying the type of item you want to encrypt, after which you can point out the path and specify the encryption method between keyfile or password only, keyfile + password, and keyfile + password + unique hardware ID (for maximum protection).
Alligator Data Guard can be asked to overwrite and wipe the original file. The decryption operation is done in a similar manner.
Hardware ID information contains the motherboard name, video controller PNPDeviceID, hard disk drive serial number, DMI BIOS version, primary MAC address, and hardware unique ID code.
In addition, you can generate random keyfiles by entering a message, as well as wipe files and folders by filling them with zeroes through passes ranging from 1 to 9.
As far as program settings are concerned, you can integrate Alligator Data Guard into shell and set it to run minimized to the system tray, and enable autorun at system startup, as well as establish default options for the encryption and decryption process.
The utility is light on the system resources, running on a minimal amount of CPU and RAM. It has a good response time and carries out a task rapidly and error-free. We have not come across any issues throughout our evaluation, as Alligator Data Guard did not hang or crash.
Limitations:
· HDD serial number, DMI Bios and Priary MAC address not available
· Unique hardware ID is not completed and it begins from "DEMO-VERSION"
· You can use maximum 10 charts in digital message to generate your keyfile
· Keyfile starts from "DEMO"
· Cannot generate your unique keyfile
· Save is disabled
· Wipe folder option not available
· Filling with zeroes through seven and nine passes are not available
· Cannot be run at system startup
· Use Your Hardware ID" is only available in file encryption dialog
· Last two encryptions and wipe methods are available only at file encryption dialog
· You can integrate only one aplication
· Will prompt you for password when the encryption data, decryption data and options dialog are unavailable
