GVim Portable is a simple application based on the famous Vim text editor. As its name states, this is a portable application that allows you to edit your text directly from your USB drive.
The program is a text editor and not a word processor, as its main function is to allow text entering. It is useful for opening and editing programs and plain text files. The user interface is simple and does not pose any problems, especially to those who are familiar with the command line utility.
You have multiple commands at your disposal to write your text. All commands can be given with the keyboard, but you can also use your mouse.
In order to help you easily write the text, the program can be set to spell check as you type, to automatically identify possible errors and suggest corrections. Also, you can choose from a wide range of compilers to use with your program. For easy access to different parts of your text, you can build a tag file that can help you easily find what you are looking for.
You can open multiple files in different tabs and panes. Their dimension is adjustable, so you can modify the view mode as you wish.
Editing the text is easy, as you can toggle line numbering and wrap, as well as modify the text width. GVim Portable allows you to convert your text to HEX and set the format for writing the file by choosing from Unix, Dos or Mac. Furthermore, you can convert the text to HTML format.
Moreover, the application allows you to open, view and edit multiple files at once in the same window. This is very useful if you want to compare the files, as the program highlights the differences in multiple colors. You can edit the text according to your preferences by changing the color scheme and the font.
One of the advantages that GVim Portable brings you is the possibility to run it directly from a removable drive, thus enabling you to edit your files from anywhere.
