Lingoes is a software that you can use to look up words in dictionaries, as well as translate text from and to several languages, including English,  German, French, Spanish, Russian, Japanese and Italian.
Since this is a portable program, installing Lingoes is not necessary. So, you can place it on a removable device and run it on any computer. Also, your Windows registry entries will remain intact.
The user interface of the application is clean and easy to navigate through. In the search bar you can toggle between "auto match" and "Essential English Dictionary".
So, you can use a text-to-speech tool and a search function, copy, save and print text, as well as launch text translation (which is supported by Google Translate) and enable the “capture on screen” mode.
Additionally, you can use some tools which include a periodic table, currency converter, international dialing codes, time zone converter, weights and measures converter, calculator, traditional and simplified Chinese conversion, MD5 algorithm, abbreviations, irregular verbs and the International Phonetic Alphabet.
In the "Options" tab you can set up dictionaries (e.g. "Google Web Definition", "Spelling Suggestion") and the additional tools, as well as change the interface language, select the search engine to use for searching the web, clear history and cache, install plugins, define mouse activation mode, configure proxy settings, reconfigure keyboard shortcuts, and more.
The program uses a moderate amount of system resources and includes a comprehensive help file with snapshots. We haven't found any errors during our tests and strongly recommend Portable Lingoes to all users (especially students).
