The Switch Checker application was developed to be a program that uses the telnet protocol to connect to switches and gather data about all the ports connected to them to allow easy search and investigation of issues.
I created switch checker because I only have read only access to the switches in our environment and to monitor and trace server connections and settings through all the various switches in our environment was a tedious process.
Because of that this program was born which allows you to connect to all the switches in your environment and collect data on all of the ports such as vlan, speed, duplex, description, mac addresses, etc.
Once the data is collected and saved you can search through all the information to locate a server or device by either IP, Mac Address, or port description to easily locate what switch it is connected to and the settings of that port.
As an added bonus there is an option to export all MAC data to an excel spreadsheet which we use for updating information to our CMDB database for workstation and server mac addresses.
Currently the utility works for most Cisco based switches and support for other switch types may be added in the future.
