Bitmeter 2 is a bandwidth meter, it allows you to visually monitor your internet connection by displaying a scrolling graph that shows your upload and download speed over time.
BitMeterOS will be available for a number of different operating systems including Windows, Linux and Mac OSX. Architecturally this new version of BitMeter is very different to the olderBitMeter 2, the main differences are:
- No dependency on the .NET framework, the core components of BitMeter OS are written in C
- Much smaller footprint - it uses less memory, requires less CPU time, and the executable files are smaller
- Bandwidth usage stored in a SQLite database
- Bandwidth usage logged using a Windows Service, or a daemon process on Linux/OSX - this means that logging begins as soon as your system starts up, and continues even if no-one is logged in.
- Command-line interface - the core data capture component, and command-line client, can be run on servers where no GUI is available
