We’ve all heard of Photoshop and the great things it could do when it comes to photo manipulation, but the whole package is a bit pricey, isn’t that so?
Well, those who still want to benefit from Photoshop’s great features but don’t have the money to buy a license can use GIMP, an alternative solution that comes with a freeware solution.
Of course, GIMP is far from being a Photoshop replacement, but it can easily play its role in basic operations over a bunch of photos.
It has everything from the most common tasks to more complex things such as effects and layers, and it is compatible with every Windows version out there.
Installing GIMP is indeed a really simple task. You have nothing else to do than to press the Next button until you reach the final step, but only if you don’t choose the Custom mode.
If you go for this one, you have to pick the files you want GIMP to handle, plus the tools that should be deployed on your computer.
Just like Photoshop, GIMP might seem impossible to use if you’re not an experienced user, but it’s only a matter of time until you get used to the interface. The toolbox has all the basic elements you need to work with photos, but the interface can become a lot more difficult if you wish to do more complex things.
GIMP doesn’t need a supercomputer to run, but on older computers you might have to wait a while when applying effects on very large photos.
All in all, if you don’t have the money to buy Photoshop and you’re not even planning to do so difficult things that would require this photo manipulation software, GIMP is the right tool for you. It’s free, which is great for this kind of app, and becomes extremely easy to use once you get used to it.
